iPad 2 is here! If you want to be the first, they go on sale at Apple retail stores this Friday 25th March at 5pm.
We have the new model and here is what we have found…
The most obvious difference is the new lightweight design. iPad 2 is one third thinner and fifteen percent lighter and the shape is easier to hold. It is said to be twice as fast with the new Dual-core A5 chip and the graphics up to 9 times faster.
The two new cameras allow FaceTime video calling so you can talk and see people at the same time as well as take HD video and then edit it in iMovie.
I really like the innovative new Smart Cover they have designed. It is magnetic and just clips on, it folds up like a concertina and then can be folded back into a stand. What is cool is the Video Mirroring, by plugging in a Apple Digital AV Adapter (or Apple VGA Adapter) into your HD TV you can view whatever is on your iPad display on the big screen. This would be great for presentation, sharing photos, videos etc.
And then of course, there is all the fun apps that come with it or are available to purchase. All the other features of the first iPad has been carried over except you can now choose from black or white colour versions. The new iPad 2 will retail in Australia from $579 to $799 for Wi-Fi only models and from $729 – $949 for the Wi-Fi plus 3G models.
As for me, I think it’s great! Mind you, a lot of overseas consumers have already been complaining about a few defaults that is worth considering, this includes “backlight bleeding” on the touchscreen, as well as dead pixels and problems with the antenna. If you are a fan you may not care, but it would be worth checking out some of the reviews I found in the links below before you take the leap.
